4 Tips To Prepare Your Water Well For The Holidays

You may not spare much thought about your well water system during the holidays, but the increased demand from visitors and additional time spent at home can tax your water well. Additionally, temperatures can drop so low that your pipes freeze (yes, even in Florida) you don’t take the proper precautions. To ensure that you don’t have any surprises during the holidays, follow these water well tips.

When it comes to well water systems, our team is the one to trust. Don’t wait! Schedule an appointment with North Florida Water Systems Inc today!

Be Mindful Of Water Use

Water usage usually goes up in the winter, and while the water level in your well may be able to handle the increased demand, the pump and holding tank might not. To help you save water, consider installing aerators on all of the faucets in your home — they can save up to 15% of water. You can also save some water by setting your dishwasher to a lighter load. Newer dishwashers are much more efficient and don’t always require a full cycle or prewash. You can also be mindful of taking shorter showers, limiting baths, and turning off faucets when not in use while cleaning dishes or brushing your teeth.

Consider A Filtration System

If you don’t already have a filtration system installed as part of your well water system, you might be amazed at what it does for your water quality. Not only will water be delicious straight from the tap, but even coffees and teas will taste better! In addition, you won’t have to worry anymore about funky smells when you or your guests shower up or brush your teeth. A home filtration system can also give you peace of mind that the water you’re using is clean. However, even with a filtration system, we still suggest water testing and treatment annually.

Prepare For Cold Weather

While most of Florida never dips below 50 degrees during the coldest days, North Florida can experience freezing temperatures, freezing and bursting unprotected water pipes. Be sure to insulate any exposed pipes before the holidays begin. You should also turn off power to your pump, shut off the water, and drain pipes before leaving home for a holiday vacation. Well Maintenance

Sometimes there are easily identifiable signs that your well, tank, or pump is on the fritz, including cloudy or sputtering water or unusual sounds at the pump. Other times, however, it can seem like everything is functioning fine — until it’s not. The best way to catch issues early is to schedule regular water well maintenance. At North Florida Water Systems Inc, we can inspect your well and perform pump maintenance and hand pump maintenance. If your well water level is low, we can determine whether hydraulic fracturing or new well drilling is the best option.
